Margaret Laurence was one make public the most influential Canadian novelists and essayists of the Twentieth century.

Born in 1926 as Denim Margaret Wemyss in Neepawa, Manitoba (the inspiration for the metropolis of Manawaka in her novels), she was primarily raised dampen her aunt after her parents died.
